Groomsmen Gift-Giving Etiquette

You and your future wife have been working hard to make sure that your wedding is a success. However, you aren?t the only two who have worked hard ? your wedding party has been a big part of the planning phase, as well. To thank them for all their hard work, you?ll want to give them gifts. Here is a list of some etiquette rules to keep in mind for when you give these gifts:

Determine Who Buys the Gifts

Don?t make your future wife buy the groomsmen gifts! Traditionally, she is in charge of the gifts for all the female members of the wedding party and you?re in charge of the gifts for all the male members. You can take this a step further and buy a gift for the dads, as well. After all, they?ll most likely be part of the wedding ceremony in some way, and they also may have helped pay for the ceremony. They deserve a token of your gratitude, as well.

Select the Perfect Gift

Have you given the gift itself any thought yet? There are a lot of options when it comes to selecting appropriate gifts for your groomsmen. You can choose to go the sentimental route and give things like photo albums, take the fun option and give items like tickets to sporting events, or give them gift sets filled with things like high-end shaving items. You can also give them luxury items, such as a gorgeous set of cufflinks or a high-end watch. You can have these items engraved or monogrammed to commemorate the event. For instance, if you decide to buy your groomsmen a nice watch, you can always have it personalized. The overall goal is to convey how thankful you are to have had their help.

Known When to Give the Gift

Although most people tend to give their groomsmen their gifts at the rehearsal dinner, you actually have a few more acceptable options. If you don?t want to give them at the rehearsal dinner or you?re not even having a rehearsal dinner, you can also give them at the bachelor party or even at the wedding reception. If you decide to give them at the reception, give them to the staff in advance to place at the correct tables. This isn?t a good option, however, if you?re giving a high-end item such as a watch. You wouldn?t want someone else to walk off with the gifts!

Set a Dollar Amount

No matter what you decide to give, you want to make sure that you spend roughly the same amount of money on everyone. This is especially important if you give out nonmatching gifts. You wouldn?t want to make anyone feel inferior! The only exception is if you want to spend a little bit more money on your best man, it?s perfectly acceptable to do so. Follow these rules of etiquette and the gifts that you give your groomsmen will be a hit!
