Should You Buy the Engagement Ring Together?

Diamond Ring

You know that you want to ask your girlfriend to marry you, but before you do, you?ll need to buy the engagement ring! There is more at stake with this purchase than just the money. You?ll want to find a ring that she?ll love, as well. At this point, you?ll need to decide if you want to buy the ring together or not. There are pros and cons to both sides, and ultimately it depends on your personalities and what works best for you as a couple.

Shopping Together Eliminates the Surprise

When it comes to proposing her hand in marriage, part of the fun of it is making it a surprise. It?s nearly impossible to do that when you?ve purchased the ring together! One of the first things people will ask her, after they hear the details of how you proposed, is how the ring looks. If she already knows what the ring looks like before the proposal, some of the magic of the initial proposal will be lost.

Some Women Want to Shop for the Ring Together

Another thing to keep in mind when deciding whether or not you should bring her to the jewelry store, is that some women genuinely enjoy being a part of the shopping experience. They look at this as one of the first major purchases that you?ll be making together as a couple. They also want to make absolutely certain that the ring you buy is one that they?ll be totally happy with. After all, this is a ring that they will likely be wearing for the rest of their lives!

Consider Shopping with Her Close Friends and Family

If you know that she is particular about the type of jewelry she wears but she prefers to be surprised by the ring during the proposal, you can always go shopping with some of her friends and family members to assist you with the purchase. Women tend to tell their closest friends exactly what they are looking for in a ring and they will be more than happy to pass that information along. The ring will still be a surprise, even if you end up getting help. Encourage Her to Shop on Her Own Does your girlfriend know exactly what she wants? If she doesn?t, you might want to encourage her to do some shopping on her own before you buy the ring. Often, she?ll go to the jewelry store beforehand and select a few styles that she absolutely loves. When you show up to purchase the ring, it could still be a surprise because she won?t know exactly which one you?ve chosen. Buying an engagement ring can be tricky. However, remember that the ring doesn?t necessarily need to be perfect. Most women are usually happy with the proposal. Once she says yes, you can always come into the store together to make tweaks and adjustments to the ring if it isn?t quite what she wanted.
