How to Arrange a Destination Wedding Proposal

Wedding Proposal

Are you looking for a unique and romantic way to propose to your girlfriend? Sure, you can always use one of the classic proposal methods, such as doing so over a fancy dinner. However, proposing to her while you?re away together makes it even more special! Here are some tips on how to organize a destination proposal.

Plan the Proposal in Advance

Before you even organize the trip, you?ll want to plan out the proposal itself. Details such as choosing a ring, knowing how you?ll ask, and deciding whether or not you would like to talk to her parents before you propose need to be worked out before you leave town. Once you have the details of the proposal in place, you can determine how it will fit into the overall trip.

Know How to Transport the Ring

The engagement ring can make or break the proposal. Unfortunately, transporting the ring without her noticing, especially if you?re flying, can be very tricky. Years ago, you could just keep it in your pocket when going through security, but not today. It?s best to keep the ring in a carry-on bag that never leaves your sight (except when it must go through the x-ray machine). It is a good idea to lock your carry-on, but she might wonder why you?re locking it, especially if you haven?t locked it on previous trips. If your bag needs to be searched, it might help to leave a note in the ring box telling them that the proposal is a surprise and to be discrete so that she doesn?t find out.

Insure the Ring

We strongly recommend insuring your engagement ring. Crazy or unexpected things could always happen ? no matter how cautious you are. Besides, insuring it is a much better option than purchasing the ring a second time! It?s also a fairly inexpensive option. We don?t insure the ring for you, but we do provide you with an appraisal that you can give to your home or rental insurance company, who will most likely be the ones to insure the ring. You can also use Jewelers Mutual, which is a company that offers insurance for only jewelry and nothing else. You can set up the policy while the ring is being made and we can fax them the appraisal before you even leave the store!

Consider the Ring Box

Even though the elegant ring box we provide you with is fairly small, it still might be too bulky for the proposal, especially if you?re trying to hide the ring from her. Of course, we?ll always give you a ring box, but we?re also happy to provide you with a small velvet pouch to the store the ring so that you can discretely slip it in your pocket or carry-on. We want to help you have the proposal of your dreams!

Organize the Trip

Once you know how you will propose and the best way to transport the ring, your next step is to make all the arrangements for the trip itself. First of all, you?ll want to determine if the trip itself will be a surprise. To pull this off, you?ll want to talk to her workplace and even get help from her friends and family. Keep in mind that if the trip is a surprise, she might suspect that you?ll be proposing. Once all the details for the trip are arranged, all that?s left to do is have fun together and then propose when the big moment arrives!
