How Early to Purchase Wedding Bands
Once the heartfelt “yes” has been spoken and the engagement band is slipped onto the finger, it is time to start thinking about the next rings. Wedding bands and bridal rings are two of the longest lasting pieces of jewelry you may ever own, and they are a symbol of what you will share and feel for each other long after the “I do.” So it is important not to rush into the decision, even if it may be tempting to take the first beautiful ring you see. There is a lot to choose from. Choosing matching wedding bands or opting for rings that have their own character may be something to consider. It may take a few visits to decide which one you like best. Perhaps there will be one that catches your eye on the first visit, or it may take a few trips into the jewelry store before one finally becomes “the one.” On average, engaged couples start ring shopping about two or three months beforehand. It’s also a good idea to begin looking at rings and get some ideas as soon as you are engaged. An early start gives you more time to browse, and gives you an idea of what you’ll spend (perhaps you’ll find that you may have to cut back on the flower budget 😉 ). It is much less stressful to walk out of the shop without a ring knowing that you have time before making a final decision. Your lifestyle will factor in as well. If you both love outdoor activities, a simpler ring will be better than something elaborate that could be damaged. If eventually you want to change it, you can at wedding anniversaries or anytime. Sometimes, people only start shopping for their wedding bands just before the wedding. If you come in a few days before, don’t worry, as it is not too late. Very often, you will still be able to find a perfect fit on short notice and walk out with it that day. A trained jeweler at Joseph Gann Jewelers can listen to your interests and help you pick out exactly what you will need. If you do buy in advance, you can leave the rings at the jewelry store for safekeeping rather than risk losing them at home. Or, if you like, you can take them home that same day.
